Oh, my heart! Thank you for this generous tour of your creative space, and the poetic ways that you court the muses. . . . "More than a location where work gets done, because work can get done anywhere, I sought a reflection of myself, someplace to sit in, immerse myself, welcome the muses around a small circle. . ." and "Those earlier muses, when they’ve wandered away after our morning coffee, often return drawn to the tender music which comes from these instruments."

I especially appreciate this reminder of music's magic. My piano has been neglected for too long.

Your mention of physics + math unlocking the mysteries of the universe reminded me of the 2013 film, "Particle Fever," about the Large Hadron Collider. Have you seen it?

This ended up being a fun piece to write, mostly to just get to experiment writing with wreckless abandon and seeing what wanted to be said. I wish I could do the same with the piano, but I still very much follow what's on the page. But if you do decide to sit down to it, let me know what you're playing.

I have not seen "Particle Fever." I'll have to see if I can watch it. Thank you for the recommendation. In college, we had a small particle accelerator in the basement of the physics building. One of my favorite classes was an experimental class where we got to load samples and fire particles at them to see what came. Such a unique experience!

Cool! “Particle Fever” is fundamentally about love, I’ll just leave it at that. This makes me want to watch it again.

I adore this. It’s evident that you grow as a writer with every piece, Latham. I think one of the greatest benchmarks for a writer is their ability to shape something extraordinary out of the mundane, and you capture that beautifully here. So well done.

Grace, I can't tell you how much that means hearing that from you. I'm grateful you liked it.

I resisted creating a true work space for myself as well. Finally, after making a commitment to write with consistency, I have a lovely corner in my house that I am drawn to. It is my space. The problem is the books...so many of them! They are mostly in a different room on a large bookcase but I am working to change that to bring them closer to me. I love how your books are organized and all the great things in the room you have created, well done!

Thank you Donna. I have so many books everywhere, and am constantly figuring out new solutions to surround myself by them. It's a lovely problem to have. I've been thinking about getting one of those freestanding tree bookshelves (maybe two) to bring even more around me. And maybe doing some shelves around my desk when I build myself a new desk.

Thank you for reading and commenting!

Wow I love the illustration of your space, including all the pictures and the works-in-progress that surround you as you "sit in, immerse myself, welcome the muses around a small circle with a cup of freshly ground, naturally processed coffee beans coaxed to perfection through the filters of the french press as we simultaneously exhaust and refresh ourselves with the possibility of new understandings of the world."

P.S. I'm really curious about Bibliotheca now, with both you and Steven vouching for it. I'm just trying to make some space for them on my bookshelves before I hit preorder!

Thank you Becky. This space is always evolving (I just decided I want to paint the room something energizing. Now to figure out what colors and designs inspire me!

My Bibliotecha should arrive around the end of this month. Maybe I'll do a review and share more. Steven inspired me to pre-order it, sight unseen.
