Really nice, optimistic piece, Latham. This type of approach resonates strongly. As you rightly say, we all have Mike ideas and what would make them reality is belief and perseverance, no matter how crazy they look. Now you just prompted me to think of mine, which I’m not ready yet to discuss (I will be in due course and maybe, who knows, I’ll reach out to you and brainstorm on it). But thank you for thought provoking, beautiful piece. :)
Thank you Silvio. It's funny, I sat down at a brewery for an hour, first beer I've had in like 5 months, and started typing free form. And about a minute in I wrote "what's the biggest, weirdest, craziest ass think you could never imagine making?" And that became this.
When you're ready to discuss your own ideas, I'd love to be here for you.
I hope you two have so much fun while she's visiting.
You should totally start that podcast. What would you angle be? What do you want to say? And I assume you know Michelle Varghoose, but if not, she has a pretty successful podcast and I know you both would have lots to talk about.
Mike Ideas! Love this. Ok, I just spent 3 months building out a "Mike Idea" and so I'm sharing it based on your invitation. It's a use case for Substack I haven't seen anyone trying yet. And it's based on a dream to create a community of individuals who want to support each other to take fun and intelligent risks on a consistent basis, as a life practice. www.breakarule.com
Awwww I love this and Mike ideas! The warm, playful intro of Mike not only drives the point home, but makes me want to meet him someday. May we all have a Mike in our life to whom we can share our Mike Ideas! This was such a fun piece.
Thank you for sharing my latest essay!! I’m so happy to hear it resonated. Reading your list at the end really inspired me, both to think more deeply about what I want and to share it with everyone. As of now, I know a big one is I want to keep writing and creating for as long as I enjoy it the way I enjoy it now. I want to have the opportunity to use those skills to tell stories that millions of people read. Good luck with your Mike Ideas! Can’t wait to see them come alive :)
What a fun piece! Love the way you connected us to Mike, then made us feel like we were let in on that special relationship a little by sharing your ideas. The weirdest, craziest, most 'that'll never happen' ones are the ones we need to go after! I've had a new Mike idea brewing for a while, but I'm not sure how I'd ever make it a reality. Maybe I'll turn that into this week's writing piece... 🤔
"I want to build a new behavioral therapy model for families. One where therapy happens in nature, and is centered around the child instead of the provider. " Interesting :)

I love your Mike ideas! I have a Mike too and her name is Jaci. She’s coming this weekend and I can’t wait.
I want to start a podcast for cancer survivors to come tell their stories.
I hope you two have so much fun while she's visiting.

Awesome Rick. I remember the last time you, Alan, and I talked you started to mention it. I'm going to poke around.
Thanks!

I love the optimism and hope in this piece, Latham. We all need a Mike in our life, and right now, I need a Mike idea :)

If you do, tag me. I'd love to read it and see if there's a way we can make it happen.
Love how you coined Mike Ideas with such a warm portrayal of your friendship and in a way I can relate to - going to remember this term!
Love the theme of "weird ambition" in this piece.
